KINESIOL 1E03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Portal Vein, Subclavian Vein, Thoracic Duct
Document Summary
Four types of lipoproteins (in order of largest and least dense to smallest and most dense) Ldl- same truck as vldl but dropped off some of the triglyceride load. Greatest proportion by weight as cholesterol, travelling out to periphery to deposit load (cholesterol) to tissues. Like the garbage truck, looking to pick up cholesterol and take it back to the liver. Incorporated to chylomicron and transport in lymphatic circulation. Thoracic duct enters vena cava around subclavian vein. Micelles composed of long chain fa, monoglycerides, bile, and glycerol. Triglyceride and protein combine to make chylomicron inside enterocyte. Chylomicron- truck we need to transport fat soluble in aqueous environment. No mechanism to get ride of cholesterol, the only way of getting rid of bile is through some sort of dietary means. Getting rid of bile makes more bile and lowers cholesterol. Enters lymphatic circulation then eventually enters systemic circulation. Store fat as triglycerides inside a cell (muscle, cardiac)
