Document Summary
Arousal and anxiety are factors affecting performance. Anxiety: usually defined in terms of the affective domain. Anxiety can be measured on several levels. Physiological: heart rate, heart rate variability, increase in blood pressure, respiration (hyperventilation), galvanic skin response, palmer sweat index etc. Competitive state anxiety inventory, spielberger anxiety state inventory) State anxiety: level or degree of anxiety associated with a specific or particular state or situation. Can vary minute to minute or state to state. Trait anxiety: general tendency toward worry or anxiety. A more stable personal characteristic that is less likely to vary across time or situation. Both types tend to interact with each other. Ie. high trait-anxious people tend to be the most state-anxious on a given task. Different state situations can result in differing levels of associated anxiety. Arousal: the general state of excitability of an organism. Arousal has a major impact on the level and quality of performance.
