Sperm cell development: (cross section of a seminiferous tubule) Epididymis: comma-shaped organ, 1. 5in long along posterior border of each testis, head: contains efferent ductules empty into duct of epididymis, duct of epididymis, around where maturation of sperm (12-16 days for maturation . Within the seminiferous tubules, the sperm spend about 50 days getting from the spermatogonia to getting to the epididymis, sperm production in general takes about 74 days: tail: inferior border of testis. Lined with pseudostratified columnar epithelium & covered with heavy coating of muscle (so that they can move the sperm against gravity up into the body: peristaltic contractions, stored sperm remain viable for several months. Ductus (vas) deferens & spermatic cord: all structures passing to and from the testes testicular artery testicular veins, autonomic nerves lymphatic vessels, ductus (vas) deferens, cremaster muscle cut or clamp ductus deferens = vasectomy, 1 in 100 reverses.
