September 28, 16: collect info from external and internal environment, send info to brain, brain decides what to di with it and sends out response. Sensory: senses changes through sensory receptors. Sensory receptors are connected to sensory neurons which carry info to cns. How light is a signal the brain can interrupt. Pressure and temperature receptors found in skin. Most responses target muscles: cardiac, smooth, skeletal. Integrative: analyze incoming sensory information, store some aspects, and make decisions regarding appropriate behaviors. I. e. coming at you with knife: scream, run, etc, filter out unimportant information. I. e. feeling fuzzy sweaters: brain stopped receiving signals information from sensory, higher order processing allows brain to filter sensory information. Components: brain, spinal cord, nerves, sensory receptors. Processing information from external and internal information. I. e. regulating blood pressure from barrel receptors in blood vessel walls. Brain and spinal cord: peripheral nervous system.
