You would be given individual property if you relinquished your indian status and became a full canadian citizen. If a male did this, the wife and children would lose their status. May be done by choice or by force. 1869, traditional forms of indian government systems are (technically) abolished. With confederation in 1867 one of the first moves was to abolish indian government. Run by indian agents, hired by indian affairs to monitor reserves and the business going on. Six nations was last community to resist elected system and did not have one until 1924.
