Why study nutrition: for your own health, for the health of your family, there is a huge opportunity to promote healthier lifestyles amongst your future clients and spare them from many of the common, largely preventable, chronic diseases. Little known fact: dr. dean ornish, showed that lifestyle alterations could reverse heart disease. So, it"s been known for over 2 decades that heart disease can be reversed, but, it"s not widely implemented! Micronutrients: micronutrients are essential for good health, but as the name implies, are needed in small quantities, micronutrients include vitamins and minerals, the best source of these nutrients is fresh food. Types of nutritional research studies: observational studies can include epidemiology which looks at diet, health and disease patterns in a population, correlations can be observed, although cause and effect cannot be determined. Critical appraisal: look at size of study, randomized?, double-blind, evaluate quality of study and look for other studies that corroborate results.
