HTHSCI 1H06 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Lacrimal Canaliculi, Lacrimal Apparatus, Meibomian Gland
Document Summary
Covers the entire eye except the cornea. Cornea: transparent coat that covers the iris. Helps to focus light into the retina. Choroid: lines the internal surface of the sclera. Contains melanocytes to darken inside of eye to absorb light. Alters the shape of the lens adapting to near and far images. Regulates the size of the pupil controlled by the cniii. Retina: inner layer of eye, sensitive to light. Role of cornea vs lens in refraction and accommodation. Cornea: bends most of the light (80% refraction) Lens: adjusts focus of eye (20% refraction) Eyeball is flattened an the image projected behind the eye causing it to be fuzzy. Eyeball is elongated and the projection is falling too short. Epithelium: pumps salt out of the stroma and water follows. Contain dense connective tissue made up of mostly collagen. Conjunctivitis: mucus membrane lines the inside of the eyelid and keeps the eye moist.
