Document Summary

Cell tissue organ system organism. 4 types of tissue: *all types of tissue can be found in every organ* Cover surfaces or line tubes and cavities. Epithelial tissue - avascular; because it lines and covers, blood vessels do not permeate. They receive their nutrients through underlying connective tissue. That is why if you cut yourself slightly, there is no blood. Once surface that is free, called the apical surface . The side surface is called the lateral surface. The bottom of the cell is called the basal surface . The basement membrane is where it is being held together to the underlying tissues. There can be specialized proteins that literally glue the epithelium to the underlying tissue. Connective tissue well vascularized (some exceptions like tendons, if you damage them it takes a long time for them to heal, because there is no vessels in there to get the required cells to repair).
