Patient values and preferences body that the physician does not. The middle overlap is where optimal outcomes exist, where all parties are involved. Assumes that patients are qualified to decide their own needs and expectations, and are able to make decisions and choices about what they need and want. Involves all team members (family, attorney, parents, teachers), and sometimes involves the decision about who needs to be involved and who does not (ex. is the person able to make good decisions about their own medical care?)
