Document Summary

Line between physical and mental not as clear as dualists would assume. Ex. panic attacks are profoundly physical experiences, yet people still say mental illness. Lots of physical illnesses are full of psychological phenomenon. There is the mental life and the body life. Body may cease to exist but the soul may endure. The causes of some mental illnesses may be physical in nature. Might turn to physical things to treat mental illness. When somebody takes medication they do it because its physical effect. Despite links between body and mind, physical state cannot necessarily give an indication of mental health. Ex. somebody who has poor mental health might have tight/high shoulders. We don"t have ways to read the body to determine mental health. Makes it more difficult to respond to mental health problems. Mental health is almost entirely self reported - great importance of self-perception. There are no biomarkers for the majority of mental health problems.
