Norms of behaviour primarily based around behaviour expected for middle aged adults. There are some specific differences when it comes to criteria for childhood (less so for old age), but tricky these are periods of immense chance. Both children and older adults are facing unique challenges related to mental health. Some unique features about older adult mental health, eg. emphasis on 3rd party reporting (a parent or an adult child, that reports how the patient acts or behaves all the time) Once a third party is introduced (diagnosis is not rigid) an entirely new agent is added too, no longer about reporting behaviour but someone else"s perception of another"s behaviour. In 19th century, childhood invented as a period of leisure and play. If it was normal for children to work then there was really no difference between a. 10, 16, 30, or 54 year old as they were all doing aspects of labour.
