People who behave in an unusual way are different from others and there might be a benefit to elevate the difference, to treat them with medicine or with prayer. In christian europe, some cited spiritual basis for madness, others argued for imbalance of humours (biological) Can explain some behaviours by having a close relationship with god, or being punished by god.
