Charlton & bates: phones have replaced cigarettes among young people. 1998: kimberly young modifies questionnaire for gambling addiction to test for internet addiction. Subsequent proliferation of studies, but field disorganized and conflicted. Holmes: many sex addicts buy magazines and videos. Disorganization has meant that addictions estimates span from 1-80%. Using different scale, different names, for the disorder, etc.
