Ltc homes are economic drivers in their communities- there are jobs there and so municipalities want control over where their jobs are, once the home transfers ownership it can get moved to other municipalities. Non-profits are trying to save money from here and they put it back into raw food. 65% of ltc residents have some dementia diagnosis - each resident is coming into ltc mroe sick with more needs. Oanhss numbers say on needs 20,000 more beds/licences - govts have to issue licences for homes to have beds: they ask the mins. to release 2,500 in the next 2 years. In fast growth areas like ha they are building schools, but in some areas like to there are empty schools. It takes 3 years from project approval to the admission of the 1st resident.
