Manifest coding - physical features - not a lot of interpretation. Latent coding - deeper features of text - underlying meaning - judgement involved - characteristics can be derived from existing literature. If instructions allow coders to use more than one personality trait for instance the percentages will not add up to 100% Easy to replicate research because all steps and instructions are included. The accuracy can also be determined because the steps are included. Because steps can be replicated it is highly reliable. Errors can be identified easily and altered. Reactivity not an issue because it doesn"t take participants" time. Impact cannot be evaluated because only the content is studied. If you have access to a survey done by another researcher and are using their data. Less time consuming because you are not creating a new survey. However stats can has decided the definitions of concepts.
