Population - the large group being studies to which the small group is being drawn. The target population is a more specific that describes the characteristics of the population. Sampling unit or element is a member of the target population. The unit we make inferences about and on which info is being collected. Sampling frame - comprehensive list of all units cases or elements of the target population. A sampling frame has to be up-to-date and current. In class exercise (add in the last fiveyears to question): Target population - canadian patients in the last 5 years. The target population is people of all ages and the sampling frame may be healthier because they are younger. Using a telephone book or use cluster sampling to make a list.
