Scientists use instruments to measure the concreteness of reality. Scientists instruments help them see from (cells etc). Social scientists cannot see form like life satisfaction. Social scientists that assume that things have a definite form and is real. Because perceptions are not involved in reality, its true form can be found and bias excluded. Scientists don"t want their own perceptions to affect others". Research is thought to be able to be value-free and objectivity is attainable. The life satisfaction survey on slide is a tool to verify the reality of life satisfaction. Implications for social science research in health and aging. Scholars can predict things because they see the concrete forms in the social and natural world, thus being able to estimate how certain factors can influence life. The overall goal is to be generalizations (laws of the social world) Small and proper sampling techniques are used and extrapolated to create laws.
