Psychosis vs. schizophrenia: psychosis: mental state characterized by profound disturbances in thought- losing touch with reality . Disease of the brain that you lose contact with reality: who: schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder, characterized by profound disruptions in thinking, affecting language, perception and the sense of self. Symptoms of schizophrenia: divided into symptoms that are acute (positive) and chronic (negative) Something that is deficit means it is expected to be found in a person but is not. These thoughts are supposed to be in their system but are not. Two dimensions: the extra and the deficit: significant misdiagnosis with bipolar disorder in adults and autism in children. Misdiagnosis: it implies that there is a correct diagnosis which a mistake has been made in; could be more than one diagnosis or more than one thing is wrong. We do not know what is right or wrong in the diagnosis. How do we verify a diagnosis without tests (blood, urine, scans)
