Lecture 16: media representations of mental illness (lecture 16 in total) march 12. Probably mostly the media (news, books, tv, social media). We tend to see mental illnesses as simple. Mental illnesses are seen through a positivists perspective. Meaning, all things about mental illnesses are definable, identifiable and knowable. They are grouped i(cid:374) (cid:449)ith the stig(cid:373)a a(cid:374)d the(cid:455) (cid:373)ight (cid:271)e(cid:272)o(cid:373)e lo(cid:374)elier si(cid:374)(cid:272)e the(cid:455) do(cid:374)"t get atte(cid:374)tio(cid:374). Most depictions are overwhelmingly negative when talking about mental illnesses.
