Projecting laterally from the spinal cord are bands of neurons called rootlets (the dorsal rootlets fuse to become a dorsal root ganglion, basically a collection of cell bodies), and they fuse to become a root. Dorsal and ventral roots fuse to form the peripheral nerves. According to this dermatome map, the spinal level of dexter"s injury is from c5 all the way down to s2 - no sensory or motor info from all limbs, no tricep/wrist extensor reflexes, minimal biceps brachii stretch reflexes. However, the top portion (c1-c5) is unaffected - can sense neck pains, respiration is normal to slightly elevated, pupils are equal, and able to move shoulders and biceps brachii - this being c6-c8. The motor pathway, on the other hand, occurs in the ventral half of the spinal cord - anterior and part of lateral column, descending (efferent track) down from the brain.
