Dsm-5 stresses most people w/ unusual sexual interests don"t have disorders, so then who does: those who feel personal distress about their interest, not merely distress resulting from society"s disapproval. Hard to separate distress from our environment: sexual desire tor behaviour that involves another person"s psychological distress or injury, or desire for sex involving unwilling persons or persons unable to five legal consent. Controversial: can be used to excuse rape, pedophilia --> suggests that these things happen against their will. Dsm attempts to tread water carefully, lots to be concerned about. Strong desire to be treated as a gender different to how society treats that person, or to be rid of one. S sex characteristics, or strong conviction that one has feelings typical of a different gender. Dsm-5 stresses that gender nonconformity is not itself a mental disorder. May help people to get the treatment or access services that they need.
