Caregiving can be a mental and physical burden. We need to reform long-term care offered so that families and patients aren"t scared. Objective: protect, promote and restore the well-being of canadians. Provides medical services on the basis of need, not on their ability to pay. Hospital insurance and diagnostic services act of 1957: federal government transferred money so we could build hospitals. Medical care act of 1966: cost sharing arrangement for patients and hospitals, patients and providers, formal 50/50 arrangement. Provinces were working together post war in canada. Federal government wanted to ensure consistency to create uniform standards of care (hospital and medical services) Health care act must abide by these principles or they are held back from funding. Many compensations covered drugs in hospital & equipment.
