Dying: when does dying begin? uncleat and depends on one"s p. o. v. Death: cessation of cardiac and respiratory function and/or cessation of brain function; difficult assessment. Social death: refers to the perception or behaviour of others that indicates that they perceive or treat a person as if they physically dead when in fact the physical body has not yet died. Death used to be common among all age groups. Longer life expectancy today means that most ppl die of the diseases of old age. Dying trajectories are much longer now (pattern or course of dying over time, e. g. sudden or slow decline) Death in later life often comes slowly and predictably. Where a person dies varies by age, disease, and support available. Dying makes demands on family, healthcare providers, and on older ppl. Compared w/ younger ppl, older ppl, think a/b death more. Compared w/ younger ppl, older ppl are less afraid of death.
