Three models of healthcare: the medical model, the social model, the health promotion model. Focus on the treatment of diseases and injuries: treatment in physi(cid:272)ian"s offi(cid:272)e, hospital, or other health(cid:272)are institution, surgery, drug therapy, and rehabilitation are common treatments, physicians have considerable control over organization of healthcare and other health professionals. Includes personal and family counseling, homecare, and adult daycare programs: care often takes place in the community, attempts to keep people at home, doctor is part of a healthcare team that includes other service providers. Long-term care: serves people with chronic illnesses and functional disabilities: treatment in home, community or institutions, social and medical services, including formal services, home or institutional care, and family care, continuum of care support options. Focuses on self-care and preventing disease through lifestyle change, increased knowledge about healthy behaviour, and environmental improvement: legislation, public health promotion campaigns, programs, and projects, could save the healthcare system money.
