Age cohort: a group of people born in the same period of time. Age grade: a concept used in age stratification theory to describe a period of life defined by society, such as young adulthood ( third age ) 2 levels of theory: micro-level (individual, negative attitudes, relationship b/w families, macro-level (broader, policy issues) Focuses on the micro level of social life (experiences) Historically least used perspective by social gerontologists. Social order, cooperation and shared norms and values. All parts of society serve a role/function to keep society in a state of balance/equilibrium; treat society as a system of social institutions. Society constantly adjusting to changes brought on by internal and external pressures. Assumes that society changes or evolves in a positive direction.
