We are interested in health studies as conducted across the social sciences. Challenges conventions, norms, philosophies and theories in policy and practice. Pays particular attention to diversity, difference, rights and social justice. Is dedicated to the transformation and change where needed. Involves a critical perspective that: will at times, draw on philosophy and social theory to make arguments. Embraces, but also critiques, multiple methods and theories. Draws many times on dedicated social science sub-disciplines allied to health including: medical sociology, medical/health geography, medical anthropology. And, where a dedicated health-focused sub-discipline does not exist, it draws on health- focused work directly from parent" social science disciplines including: Health studies also draws on a range of interdisciplinary fields (that we oftentimes see in universities) which might, in part, focus on health: women studies. Occasionally draw on health sciences where a critical social sciences perspective is evident.
