Over the next 3 centuries the lands were divided into colonies and their resources were exploited (silver/gold/enslaved people from africa to the continent). By the end of 18th century there were very complex multi centic societies. Creole: used to describe the descendants of early european settlers, born in the colony. Not all were wealthy land owners but most were part of elite. Mestizos: people of mixed european and amerindian descent (meridians being the indigenous population) Mulattoes: people of mixed european and african descent. Penninsulars: spanish and potugese administrators in latin american colonies who did not intend ot settle in them. (to govern them not live there) Mexico was part of the province new spain at that time.
