Romanticism (1780-1850: an artistic and literary reaction to the enlightenment and to rationalism, primarily an appeal to emotion, sentiments, the beauty and unnamable power of nature, and to spirituality, emotions vs. rationalism (enlightenment, rebellion against social conventions. In conservative nationalism, you look to the roots of your history, ethnic links, language and culture fuel the nation state, starts to harden into the notion of race. All sorts of 19th century sciences looking into the origins of races.
