Germans defeat the russians (treaty of brest-livotsk (refer to russian revolutions section)) and focus all its troops in the west. Pushes allied forces to the brink of paris. (similar to in early 1914) Fails eventually and are pushed back by the french and british back to the same line they were in for the majority of the war: hamel (july 1918) Australian commander john monash convinces british to let him control his soldiers" actions. Monash believed that attacks should be coordinated. (artillery, infantry, airplanes, cavalry) Australians launch gas attacks every night at exactly the same time. The germans grow accustomed and just go to sleep with gas masks on. One day before the attack, noisy planes fly overboard, allowing tanks move into position without notice. Aus perform a creeping barrage (refer to next section), while germans go to sleep thinking it is a gas attack. Germans are caught by surprise and the australians take their trench(es).
