1975-2000 collapse of steel industry = suburbanization & urban decline. 2000-2010 income polarization between downtown and suburbs. Income is mainly mid class in 1970. Grew to a lot of mixture of downtown core getting pore, and suburbs got richer 2010. Code red: differences in 135 neighbours in hamilton (2010) mcmaster & hamilton spec: 12 part series, highlighted neighbourhood level differences in social determents. Age of health ranged from 65 to 86 in different neighbourhoods. Childhood poverty can range from 69% to 0 bt neighbour hood. Findings: do you think you"re affected by employment in hamilton. 72% think racial youth are negatively affected. Racism in hamilton - yes, at least 1 a month - 1 a week. A lot of them are rst to attend school, don"t feel this support from staff or administration. Lower academic expectations were found for racial people in school. Black youth were streamlined to college from high school by mentors and teachers.
