War = act of con ict by state. The main forms of con ict involve: competition for territory, rivalries between cultural groups, ideological differences, imbalances of power. The geographies of con ict exist at a number of spatial scales: Types of con ict: between states, e. g. world war 1/2, vietnam, middle-east con icts between isreal and egypt, Lebanon, syria, etc: quest for independence from foreign dominance/colonial power, u. s, african states, etc. Secession: one group wants to leave the country and be de ned as their own country. Civil war: one has a concern with the other because of imbalance of power and differences of opinions. About 25 wars going on in the world today. Ethnic or religious hatred vs. power and development; as countries develop the likelihood of internal con ict declines. Con ict is mostly driven by countries that are poor ghting about being poor.
