3 factors determine the level of air pollution: The amount of space into which the pollutants are dispersed. The mechanisms that remove the pollutants from the air. The direct products of either combustion/evaporation & are harmful to the environment & humans in general. When they are emitted into the troposphere, they can be in a form that is directly harmful or they can react to form other harmful substances. Can have natural resources: volcanic eruptions, burning of vegetation, dust storms. Products of the interaction of primary pollutants with constituents of the atmosphere and light from the sun: including chemicals like nitric acid, peroxyacetyl nitrates, formaldehyde, and ground level ozone. Can have harmful effects to the environment and human health. Are organic compounds that have a low boiling point, which causes their molecules to evaporate and enter the surrounding air. They are released in the atmosphere by various industrial processes and by transportation.
