Understand how human societies are affected by climate processes and trends. Understand how human societies have altered the composition of earth"s atmosphere. Understand how human societies have altered the landscape. Understand how both these types of changes have altered earth"s climate. Prolonged drought makes it difficult to grow crops. Heavy rainfall cause downslope mass movement (e. g. mudflows), these destroy settlements and can lead to death. Wildfires result in loss of important economic resources (e. g. timber), they can also lead to loss of property. Anthropogenic climate forcing change in climate resulting from human activities at local to global scale. Change in chemical composition of earth"s atmosphere is an example of this and has impacted the equilibrium between atmosphere, ocean, and biosphere. Proxies (pieces of evidence) were used to reconstruct earth"s composition over past millennia. Co2 concentration over past years have been determined by measuring concentration of gases trapped in ice cores.
