What we talk about when we talk about short stories: setting. Inner psychic states and their outward manifestation: recurring symbols and repeating patterns. Attention is drawn to these and sparks us to further explore the text: the argument. Don"t state the obvious meaning; just say what is in front of you! They guy moves the luggage to the other side. Characters know what is happening but we don"t. Moving between rooms, rather than going on a journey. The train is like a road and the station is like a house in the middle of these two roads or ways. Heated world where people try to cool off. A no nonsense way of introducing characters adds to this un- comfortableness. The story is like a pause and the two tracks are options. * short stories can isolate a specific time, but reveal a lot about the characters*
