Dramatic monologue: through one persons speaking, two people, sometimes more have to be included and shown to the audience. He has items and he can choose what to show. He feels he owns things and his riches (wealth/name) should be praised. This man has control and needs to have control. Duke (the man) is possessive (wife is just one of his possessions) Shows off his other objects after his wife"s painting- she is just a part of his collection. Let me show you all my possessions, then we can talk about my new wife . The poem is almost watching itself represent itself. There is sexual connotation with breaking cherry and riding a white mule . The wife did something innocent yet the duke thinks it is sinful.
