Politicians claim they are poll-driven and cater to the public, which is incorrect. Public wants are mismatched with political opinions. Many people don"t want a liberal/right wing label even if their beliefs are categorized as such. Public is more left than their representatives and what they appear to be in the media. Political campaigns are often funded by few wealthy individuals. There is very little money for politicians in community causes, so they are overlooked. Media selects which questions to ask and which not to. President clinton may not have been a liberal, but he played one on tv. Many believed he was liberal when he actually performed right-wing jobs. The media has the power to shape or modify what we know of an issue. We base our level of concern regarding an issue on the amount of media coverage. Military spending of the us (at b) isn"t necessary for their level of risk.
