Surrounded by one province and eight states. Great changes in environment from south to north: population, climate, geology. Lake erie has longer shoreline but less volume (since it"s so shallow: less water = easiest to have problems, high population around it. Anything you put in the ground will probably get to the lakes. Pollution that falls around this area will get into the lake: much larger than just the shorelines, quite a distance away. Retreating glaciers 10,000ish years ago and formed the lakes. Left behind sediment and nutrients that made the land fertile: good for agriculture influenced people to move here. European settlers came in on tributaries, left with valuable natural resources. First ones were explorers: second wave was the ones that realized it was a good spot. Built sawmills (one of the first industries) March 26, 2014 (led to) clear cut forests.
