Purposeful termination of a pregnancy before the embryo or fetus is capable of sustaining independent life. An exception was made for abortions performed in a hospital with the approval of that hospital"s three doctor- therapeutic abortion committee. Would have to certify that the pregnancy would be likely to endanger the life or health of pregnant woman. The term health was not defined, and therapeutic abortion committees were free to develop their own theories as to when a likely danger to health ( which might include psychological health) would justify a therapeutic abortion. Teen does not need consent from parent to legally have an abortion ( as long as they understand) Greater than 20 weeks or 500g need to make funeral arrangements. Cdns are divided in their opinions (2001 poll) Although most canadians accept abortion under certain circumstances (e. g rape) 43% of adults & 55% of teens believe it should be legal for any reason.
