Surely much media consumption is casual and meh"-ish: non-fans. But what is the show to them, and how do they construct it? . Overwhelming majority of media content is meh like some don"t like other when not a fan you a a non fan. Non-fans watch because they want to and enjoy a show or movie franchise, but not with intense enthusiasm and background knowledge of fan. Non-fans might have begun to invest like fans in a work but stop intermittently or abruptly. E. g. , readers who never complete the novels they start reading, tv viewers who begin a series but don"t watch it to completion. Non-fans also might only have been exposed to a work second- or third-hand from friends or family, or from public discussion. E. g. , movie trailers and film previews, cast interviews, online discussion boards, entertainment news, movie or video game reviews, etc. Non-fan"s knowledge of text is often partial and fragmented but also potentially insightful.
