This is a class about audiences in a broad sense, will be considering audiences in as many facets as possible. Will be using the same terms interchangeably to name audiences (spectator, reader, viewer, audience) all terms have relationship/describe mass media. The idea of an audience came into being through mass media. Mass media are de ned by: one-way or linear transaction of media content between sender and recipient, media content delivered on large scale to audience unknown to producer (characterizes mass media) A lot of the labour & energy expended by media industries aims to identity the unknown audience. New technologies make it much easier to identify that audience: separation of space and time b/w conditions of productions and reception of media content. E. g. production of rogue one began years ago and the lm came out a couple of weeks ago. Separation of space and time between conditions of production and conditions of consumption.
