Non-verbal communicaion exists: even without speech it is possible to understand how others are feelings. Non-verbal communicaion has communicaive value: reveals informaion; we aren"t always conscious of what we are communicaing non verbally. Non-verbal communicaion is ambiguous: encoding and decoding skills are a strong predictor if popularity, atraciveness etc, must consider several factors: context, history, mood and feelings. Non-verbal behaviour is diferent from verbal communicaion: non-verbal cues are oten unintended. Non-verbal skills are important: those who are beter senders of non-verbal messages are also beter receivers. Culture: the meanings of some gestures varies from one culture to another, although some may be universal, the way they are used varies around the world. Gender: social factors have more inluence than biology in shaping how men and women behave, cultural norms in the western world disinguish male from female behaviours. Repeaing: people remember words reinforced by gestures, cultural norms in the western world disinguish male from female behaviours.
