Adorno and horkheimer criticisms came up with the term the culture industry to describe the profound impacts of capitalist methods of mass production on cultural life. Generally refers to services that operate on open internet networks which they do not manage/control to distribute their content. They operate over the top of traditional satellite and cable services. User generated content : providing and expanding part of our media choice. Gutenberg"s printing press helped create a new kind of audience- disconnected from time + place. The printing press - led to messages being increasingly mediated.
