CLASSICS 2MT3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Nomina Anatomica, Gender Dysphoria, Bariatrics
Document Summary
Cutting words + understanding their function + knowing the etymology of words (are they english or latin?) Since our language is always evolving, it might be useful to learn how to break down and understand terms that are used that may not be available in current dictionaries. Analgesia: noun + ia = abnormal condition; alges = pain; a(n) = lack of (e. g. apolitical) Bariatrics: ics = science of; iatr = healing; bar = weight/pressure. Learn the origins of words: caesarean/cesarean section: caedere is latin for to cut (not related to julius caesar!) Gender dysphoria is a word that is a combination of both greek and latin. Nomina anatomica: world-wide standard nomenclature, entirely in latin. Text-book and workbook is required since not all terms are reviewed in class. Review tests when you get them back (may be errors in calculations, etc. )
