Early roman temple, temple of manly fortune . Etruscan influence: deep porch, frontal approach steps, narrow proportions. Greek: ionic columns, engaged columns (hellenistic, not greek) Originally built by agrippa (augustus" friend and lieutenant) but was later completely rebuilt by the emperor hadrian. Inscription on pantheon recognizes agrippa as the maker of the temple. Preserved because it was turned into a church (but the architecture was left alone) Dome weight was lessened through use of coffers. Arches were used commonly because they are very effective at holding up large buildings and are cost-effective. Triumph: a celebratory military procession into the city of rome. Soldiers had to lay down their arms before entering the city.
