Uncertainty about his origin [potentially zeus] & of his actions of determining whether the gods are truly divine decides to feed his son pelops to the gods. Gods notice he is not an animal & thus decide not to eat him [w/the exception of demeter, the goddess of the hunt] Pelops put back together w/an iron shoulder. Two sons: atreus & thyestes follow the typical mythological arc of brotherly conflict (like aeson & pelias) Atreus & thyestes live in the peloponnese prophecy that one of the sons of pelops will rule mycenae: whoever has the golden fleece [different than jason"s] => thyestes produces the golden fleece & becomes king. => atreus angered & approaches his brother: if the sun wakes up on the wrong side, atreus will become king. Thyestes agrees for it"d be a sign from the gods. => sun wakes up on the wrong side & atreus becomes king.
