The rise of complexity in the renaissances. The second period of state formation (first was bronze age, but they had collapsed at the end of the age) 8th century this occurred, the states that formed during this time were very different in comparison to minoan"s. Villages coming together and forming states, then coming into being ruled by leaders. These were all greek cities/states they had cultural values, same language and their beliefs were all similar. They competed in a manner of peace not war. The figureless geometric art gives away into figuration of art, which was taken from myths like the odyssey and the iliad: as these new states were forming, new identities were also evolving. Myth and religion were central to state formation and identity formation. They competed in the olympics which means sports but also poems, epics, and this gave them identity (this identity was created through myths)
