High nutritional consumption or body at mass during pregnancy: degree of maternal insulin resistance, increased fetal nutrient supply, fetal overgrowth and infant fatness. Exposure to maternal obesity or diabetes increased odds for development of obesity and the metabolic syndrome. Extends beyond prenatal period into infancy and early childhood: rapid weight gain increased risk of obesity in childhood and early adulthood. Maternal nutrition and the development of the neural network regulating appetite.
