Aposematic colouration: opposite of crypsis, warning signal, poisonous, predator will associate these colours. Mimicry batesian: usually mimics are lower in population, 1) batesian mimicry. Predators learn to avoid these black and yellow colours. Caterpillars that look like snake: 2) mullerian mimicry. Both species are both models and mimics. In the towns it"s tender, and outside is tough. Number of species present in that area were higher when the starfish (keystone predator) were present. Number of species present in that area were lower when the starfish (keystone predator) absent. Critical to maintaining diversity of the habitat: grey wolves. Reintroduced to yellowstone national park in small numbers but large impact. Wolf killed deer, and deer started avoiding places. Number of beavers (live to eat trees) increased, song birds increased, rabbits, mice, otters, weasel, etc. all started to rise when wolves were introduced. Recent landslide in stevens lake washington slope destabilizing by clearcutting.
