Document Summary
The united states has a long and tedious history, which ultimately leads to the nation existing as one of the most influential powers of the world today. Perhaps one of the greatest time periods within the nation"s history was the period known as the roaring twenties. The stock market boomed, people were wealthy, and spirits were high. The sudden crash of the stock market sent the country plummeting into the great depression, which lasted from 1929-1939. Unemployment rates skyrocketed, banks failed and closed, and people starved. However, in certain parts of the country, people were simultaneously battling another problem: the dust bowl. The dust bowl was an environmental crisis that mainly affected the great plains of america (cook, miller & seager, 2009). The dust bowl refers to extreme dust storms that caused severe ecological and agricultural losses. It was prompted by a drought that came in three waves throughout the 1930"s.
