Document Summary

Dna mutaions: idenify the types of mutaions that can be found in dna molecules, examine the mechanisms in which dna can be repaired, understand how mutaions can lead to variaion in the genome. Mutaions can create devastaing cellular consequences, or a beneicial adaptaion and are in fact responsible for the large array of genes and therefore geneic diferences that can be found among diferent organisms. As a result, mutaions are oten considered to be the source of geneic variaion. Mutaions can be created in many ways, including being due to environmental factors, arising due to spontaneous mutaions or even errors that occur during the process of dna replicaion. For any given nucleoide, mutaion is a very rare event. On addiion, there is variability as to the likelihood that a new mutaion will occur at a given nucleoide base pair in a single round of replicaion across diferent organisms. Geneic informaion can be mutated in either somaic or germline cells.
